We are searching for a family with an older child, like about 3 years or older. We are currently in a nanny share with a family who has a child the same age as our son and we realized that as they are starting to walk it would be very hard for the nanny to take care of both children (we are thinking safety).

We have an odd schedule since my husband works freelance. He will stay at home with Dylan except when he has assignments. Last year he was constantly booked, but this year (so far) he works a few weeks then has a few weeks off because of the economy. We'd like an arrangement that consists of one day a week constantly (so the everybody is familiar with each other), then the rest as needed. We're willing to pay a "retainer" for the unused days and then a full rate for the used days. We can also act as backup in case the nanny is ill if one of us isn't working.

Nanny Share Salaries

I recently got asked about what is the average pay for a nanny who is watching two children from two different families at the same time. The range is anywhere between $650-$950 a week (and then divide that amount in half and that is what each family pays). While this range seems huge, it is really up to what each family is comfortable paying. Other things to discuss include paid vacation time (the standard is 10 days paid), metro card, money for lunch each day, paid sick time, paying for cell phone. My only piece of advice is to not go over your head financially. In other words, your base salary should leave enough wiggle room for raises in the future and holiday time bonuses. You don't want to start your nanny at such a high weekly salary that you can't afford to ever give her a raise.

If anyone is willing to share any advice about nanny share salaries, please either respond by commenting on the blog or write to me and i'll post it.

Thanks much,
Sharon
