Why A Nanny Share?

Why a nanny share?

Why not?

Are you looking for affordable childcare in the NYC area?

Has everyone you've talked to about this topic scared the living daylights out of you?

Let me guess - You attempted to look at day cares in Manhattan and it turns out you were supposed to place your child on the waiting list prior to conception?
You find out that day care isn't necessarily cheaper than having a nanny.
You decide, alright, I'm going to find a nanny and then you don't know where to start and you don't know if you can swing the cash output every week (between $500-$650 each week, rain or shine).

Well, you've come to the right blog.

My hope is that this blog will answer all your nanny share questions, as well as help you find another family to share a nanny with.

If you want to post on this blog.

Email shareournannycom@gmail. com

Your email should include the following information:
1. First name
2. Contact information – email address or phone or both
3. Age of child
4. Already have a nanny

6. Neighborhood you live in
7. Are you willing to drop off your child at someone else's apt?
If yes, what area are you willing to go to?
For example, you live in Washington Heights but work in mid-town. You are happy to drop off your child somewhere on the UWS providing it's off the 1 subway line.
8. Do you have any pets?
9. Does your child have any allergies?
10. Does your building have an elevator (think double stroller!)?
11. Does your neighborhood have a playground, nice places to walk? You will want the nanny to be spend time outside with the children.

If you feel comfortable sharing e-mail addresses, then you may do so through the blog (keep in mind it is public).

If you are NOT comfortable sharing your information this way, email me at shareournanny.com@gmail.com and I will contact both parties via email.

If you are looking to see what nanny share situations are currently available, scroll through the blog.

The only way this FREE nanny share referral service will work is by sharing this blog with as many families as possible. I will also do my best to get in touch with other NY Metro baby-related organizations, Web sites, (i.e. BabyBitesNYC, BigCity Moms, Urbanbaby etc) to make sure that they are are aware of this blog. In addition, I would like to create a PDF of a flyer advertising this service blog so that parents like you can download the pdf and post it at your pediatrician's office, dentist office, ob/gyn, library, local bagel store, synagogues, churches, etc etc.

The success of this blog is in our hands – the more families are aware of it, the greater chance of finding another family that matches your nanny share needs.

Family Seeking to Share their Nanny 1-3 Days/Week

We are moving our wonderful nanny from a full-time to a part-time (2-3
days a week) position with us and are looking for a family to share her
with. She would be available 1, 2 or 3
days a week. We are totally flexible as to what days of the week this
would be and would also be fine with half days if the location is
convenient.

She is an amazing nanny - loving, caring, responsible and so committed
to our daughter's welfare! She has experience both with newborns and
toddlers. We really couldn't imagine a better nanny. She would also be
great as a baby nurse if you have a new baby on the way!

When one of the kids in the nanny share gets sick.

So here's something to keep in mind - when one of the kids in the nanny share gets sick, you will most likely not be able to have the nanny watch both kids that particular day or week.
That just happened to us two weeks ago.
Nate got a bad virus and the pediatrician said he would be contagious for the next few days so that left us without childcare for four days! It meant that our nanny would have to watch the other little girl at her apt while my husband and i scrambled to find alternative child care for the week. Between my husband and i taking days off and my mom coming in for one day, we were able to manage.
And i thought to myself: if we had our own nanny then this wouldnt be a problem.
Then i thought about it some more (since i was now home with a sick and very fussy child), and i figured that there were times that Nate would be sick that i wouldnt want to leave him with our nanny (as wonderful as she is) because i would feel like I (or my husband) would need to be there for him.
I also thought about daycare and how strict daycares are (and have to be) when it comes to illness and that we would probably have to have more backup care if we did end up doing daycare.
And then i thought how wonderful it is to be in a nanny share (yes we are saving thousands of dollars - no denying that) but there is something to be said that Nate is in the wonderful company of a lovely little girl (almost 11 months old) and even though he doesn't exactly acknowledge her presence at the moment, i do believe that in time, he will truly come to appreciate her as the older sister he will never have.

So, if you are considering a nanny share and having some doubts, please contact me.
